Information to translate the website interface, mobile applications,etc… in different languages.

Tools to translate

It's not perfect, but for now we use Google Doc for translations. Compared to the wiki, the advantage is that you can easily find people willing to translate even if they do not contribute to Open Food Facts. Moreover, it is often much easier to find translators than contributors: the interface is translated into 11 languages, but there are very few products in many of them.

Google Translator Kit allows to accelerate the translation of a structured manner through a combination of machine translation and human proofreading

There are also some texts to translate: that of the home page, and pages that are linked at the bottom of page: FAQ , conditions etc. .

Roadmap (we need people to make it happen)

V2 for the internationalization of OFF will include:

  • a Hierarchy of categories common to all languages
    • translation of category names
  • translated names of ingredients
